What can you expect from my service?
The first step of my involvement is always a detailed assessment of the difficulties facing the child or young person and the impact on the family. This assessment is made during an initial one and a half hour session. Based on the information gathered during the assessment, I write a report which includes suggestions for future directions. This may include recommendations for therapeutic intervention which I will discuss fully with you without obligation. Sometimes it is difficult to be specific about the amount of therapeutic time that is needed to have an impact on a psychological problem, but I will negotiate the course of my involvement at every stage.
Sometimes I may ask children, young people and their parents to complete standardised questionnaires which ask for detailed information about specific areas of difficulty. These are helpful in a number of ways; for example, they enable fine detail about a particular problem to be explored, and they can provide a measure of the severity of a problem which gives a benchmark against which change can be evaluated.
Occasionally it can be very informative to observe a child at school or at home. This would always be discussed and agreed in advance with parents and teachers as appropriate.
I charge £175 for a first assessment session which lasts an hour and a half; this initial fee includes a written report and recommendations for further intervention, if appropriate. Shorter assessment sessions and initial parent consultation sessions of an hour’s duration, followed by a written report and recommendations, are charged at £145. Thereafter, intervention sessions of one hour are charged at £110. School or home visits are also charged at this rate (and can be pro-rated if necessary).
Travel costs, if incurred, are charged at half the hourly rate.
As mentioned on the Welcome page, due to relocation, I am no longer holding clinics as previously.
